New Jersey Innovation Institute Awarded Contract to Plan Northeast Sustainable Communities Workshop

NEWARK, March 6, 2017 – For the fourth consecutive year, the Brownfields Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE) has awarded the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT Corporation, a contract for the Planning and Coordination Services for the 2018 Northeast Sustainable Communities Workshop to be held at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, May 23, 2018.

Elizabeth Limbrick, NJII project manager for policy and planning innovation for civil infrastructure and environment will organize the conference, working with BCONE to develop the theme, agenda and speakers. The conference is designed to offer new ideas and concepts on sustainability, collaboration and leverage, contamination, resiliency, brownfields, technology and community revitalization impact. NJII will assist BCONE in gathering global experts in sustainability to share ideas that will assist in achieving workshop objectives.

BCONE is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide education on the benefits of brownfield remediation and sustainable redevelopment and to work with member states and brownfield stakeholders to facilitate brownfield cleanups within member states.  BCONE members have extensive experience in the brownfield remediation and redevelopment process. Members include state regulatory agencies and brownfield practitioners in the fields of environmental remediation, land use consulting, real estate, law, land development and green jobs training programs. The latter supply well-trained, accredited and certified entry-level technicians for a variety of brownfield and green energy jobs.

“BCONE’s annual Northeast Sustainable Communities Workshop exemplifies the educational mission of the Coalition.  NJII is proud to be working with BCONE in planning this important event,” said Colette Santasieri, NJII’s executive director, policy and planning innovation for civil infrastructure and environment.

The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) is an NJIT corporation that applies the intellectual and technological resources of the state’s science and technology university to challenges identified by industry partners. Through its Innovation Labs (iLabs), NJII brings NJIT expertise to key economic sectors, including healthcare delivery systems, bio-pharmaceutical production, civil infrastructure, defense and homeland security, and financial services.
