IoT platform Particle took a big step to expand its R&D capacity by acquiring RedBear, a Chinese based IoT hardware development company. With this acquisition California-based Particle positions itself to be a full solutions provider for all stages of IoT development.
By becoming a full-scale IoT organization, Particle will serve IoT builders from prototyping to full-scale deployment. In total, developers and enterprises will be enabled to market faster through use of Particle’s innovation capabilities.
RedBear has an intriguing history, having been founded in 2012 and almost immediately gaining success on Kickstarter by fundraising for new products. From that came a loyal developer community that propelled the company’s growth.
The RedBear team will contribute to building Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Wi-Fi-enabled IoT hardware as part of Particle's growing product lines. RedBear CEO Chi-Hung Ma will remain to lead Particle's development team based in China.
"Particle is committed to building the best team in the business to enable anyone to create IoT solutions that produce real value," said Zach Supalla, Particle co-founder and CEO in the press announcement.
